There are not many things in the world more stressful than attempting to complete all of your Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve. After fighting through the crowds to pick over the sparse odds and ends that are left in tens of shops for the perfect gift, eventually settling for a present that is “good enough”, and then standing in line for an hour in an attempt to pay for that present even a root canal job may seem preferable; after all, at least they anesthetize for that!

However, because of the busy agenda of individuals these days, it is becoming more and more difficult for people to get things finished ahead of the Christmas rush. After all, shops have established hours which in general inconveniently coincide with the time that most of the world’s populace has to be at work. (More than one individual has suggested that this is not, in fact, a coincidence).

Deliberate or not, it is difficult for a lot of people to do their shopping in a real shop. For this reason, virtual shops are on the rise as people enjoy the power to do their shopping at any hour of the day or night from the comparative comfort of their own homes.

Doing their shopping on the Worldwide web does not, however, eliminate one of the most pressing problems facing holiday shoppers, that is, choosing what the should buy. For years the jewellery industry has been doing its level best to provide shoppers with an opportunity to select a romantic gift for that special individuals in their life, say, a ring, a necklace, a bracelet, a brooch or a tie pin. It seems as though there is always something for everybody in the world of jewelry, no matter what the individual or their character.

However, giving the same presents year after year can become very tedious and jewelry shops have to constantly fight to stay on top of the market. They are consistently coming up with trendy new items to bring in customers and they have done it again with the introduction of silver card pendants.

Silver card pendants are pendants that attach to a card and can be worn as a necklace by the person who received them as a gift. That sounds effortless enough, right? The best thing is that without thought of who you are shopping for, there is a silver card pendant that is fitting for the occasion! Is your wife’s birthday coming up? Buy her a pendant with a romantic heart on it . Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you have not even begun to think about what you are going to buy your beloved?

Buy her a pendant that says “With All My Love Always” and give it with a card. Is your partner a new mum? Why not buy her a pendant that allows her to slip in a photo of your new bundle of happiness and take him or her with her wherever she goes?

As you can see, no matter what the situation, a silver card pendant makes the ideal gift. They can be bought from almost any online specialty retailer; you only have to do a search.

I have a few questions for you first of all. Do you like chocolate? Or does it go deeper than that? Do you love chocolate are you what is called a chocoholic? And lastly, was that attitude fashioned by store-bought chocolate such as Mars Bars, Galaxy and Snickers?

I asked all those questions because, if you love chocolate and all you have ever tasted is store-bought chocolate, you have a real surprise waiting for you one day. A really fantastic revelation. One day you will taste gourmet chocolate and it will bowl you over. It will make you regret all those days of your life that you had not known it.

Gourmet chocolate is to a Mars Bar what fillet mignon is to a beef sandwich or what champagne is to cheap wine. It sounds as if I am running Mars Bars down and I suppose I am in a way, but I do believe that they have their place in the hierarchy of the world of chocolate, it is just not near the top and when you have tried gourmet chocolate, you will agree with me.

You will see the light and come to understand that perhaps you used to eat store chocolate for the sugar rush and not for the chocolate, because the store kind is, in fact, a very adulterated copy of the real thing. If you do not believe me, look at the contents list on the back of the wrapper.

Dark chocolate is created by adding fat and sugar to the cacao mixture. The U.S. Government calls this “sweet chocolate”, and demands a 15% concentration of chocolate liquor. European regulations specify a minimum of 35% cocoa solids. It does not sound very much, does it? (By the way, chocolate liquor is like lumpy gravy and if you pulverize the lumps and take away most of the fat, you get cocoa solids).

This is why European chocolate has a better name than American chocolate in general, although there are excellent gourmet chocolate makers in the USA (called chocolatiers; like a chef is to haute cuisine)..

Some inexpensive chocolates are even blended with wax and most bakery chocolate products have very little, if any, real chocolate in them! They contain mostly sugar of one kind or another and “partially hydrogenated palm oil.” On the other hand, gourmet chocolate will echo the quality of the ingredients, which includes high quality cocoa beans, no preserving agents or vegetable fats (other than cocoa butter) and sugar, which is also a preserving agent, should only be used in moderation.

Some chocolate is made from only one kind of bean, just like some wine is made from one variety of gape and some whisky is single malt, but most is made from a blend of several varieties of beans again lust like the cheaper wines and whiskeys. Fine chocolate has a far greater percentage of cocoa butter, and will be more extensively refined.

Aficionados of gourmet chocolate are like connoisseurs of fine wines and single malt whiskies, they appreciate the object of their affection. In time, they can discuss the advantages of one bean or process over another. If you want to go down this road, you could join one of the many good gourmet chocolate clubs on the Internet

I hope that you do not think that the theme of panties or knickers is rude or taboo, because I am not out to shock or upset anyone with this piece. No, rather, this piece is being written to point out the fun that you can have with your underwear. After all, underwear is not rude or dirty and the overwhelming majority of people in the world wear it, I should think.

But I do not want to talk about men’s underpants in this article and I do not even want to talk about ordinary knickers, I want to talk about personalized panties. Personalized panties are all the rage. In fact they have been for a long time, but before you either had to do the custom embroidery yourself or you had to put up with the off-the-shelf personalized panties.

Often their slogans were ‘not quite right’, if you know what I mean. Typical writing on personalized panties was: ‘Unwrap Before You Eat’ or ‘Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here’. They were a little tacky to say the least. Then came the: ‘I’m Dick’s Bit Of Fluff’ type, but they all wear a bit thin after a while, saucy as they may be.

That was a while ago and nowadays you can have written what you want on your personalized panties and you can do it online and have your secret underwear delivered to your door in a brown envelope, not that anyone would really be concerned these days.

There are plenty of custom underwear manufacturers, which for $10-12 will add three to five lines of text and a logo to your panties. You can choose from pre-written text and a selection of images and logos or you can design and up load your own.

Do not get me wrong, you could just have something simple written on them like the days of the week – in Chinese. It does not have to be sexy, but it is better if it is.

This can be a huge source of pleasure for you and whomever you choose to show your panties to. It is a great kick to be wearing personalized panties with something saucy written on them when you are looking at the person you fancy, especially if they do not know what you have on.

And when they do find out, they will have as much enjoyment at the sexy joke as you did. $10 or $12 is not a great deal for a good pair of panties and if you can have them personalized too and delivered to your door, it becomes a huge bargain. Try it and you will see what I mean. You and your friend will get a huge kick out of your naughty personalized panties.

People are in a much more liberal frame of mind than they were fifty years ago. In this day and age, people are not so rigidly tied to tradition as they once were. This goes for all traditional customs including the etiquette for wedding garments. Having said that, it is always a good idea to know the rules before you start trying to bend them, after all, you do not want to go too far and either upset your hosts or humiliate yourself.

The bride traditionally wore a white gown to indicate her purity and chastity. However, these days many couples live together before they get married, so they feel as if it is not valid to wear white. Therefore, many women choose to wear an off-white shad or a pastel colour.

Bridesmaids should wear any garment that the bride chooses for them. If the bridesmaids are allowed to choose their own costume, they should make sure that they dress in the same colour as the bride. The whole ceremony is the bride’s concern and attendants and guests should take their prompt from her.

Which shade the bride selects, usually depends on the colour scheme of the wedding. Widows and divorces used to wear lilac or lavender, but nowadays they too usually wear an ivory or cream wedding dress. Registry office weddings are even more informal and any smart clothing may be worn.

A rule of thumb for guests is, the more formally the bride and groom dress, the more formally the guests should dress. Do not forget that you are liable to be photographed at some point and you do not want to look at the photo years later and feel embarrassed at the Elvis costume you thought was a good idea at the time.

Traditionally, men wore morning suits or dinner jackets with a black bow tie. Many couples dispense with these formal costumes these days and just wear a smart business suit. Dinner jackets may be worn to an evening reception.

The groom’s attendants, the ushers and the best man have no choice, they have to dress in what the groom wears, morning suits, dinner jackets or business suits. Guests should ‘follow suit’, although it is quite acceptable for those who are not immediate family to dress down a bit, say, wear a business suit instead of a dinner jacket. Civil weddings are far more informal and the couple may choose to go ’smart, but casual’.

The couple’s families should wear what they are told to wear even if they have to hire the suits and dresses. The mothers should not be colour co-ordinated although it is fine for the fathers to wear the same kind of suit. Brothers should dress in a similar way to their father and sisters are usually bridesmaids.

Guests should check with their invitation and wear what is suitable although it is frequently acceptable to dress down a little. The important thing to keep in mind is that it is the wedding couple’s day and you should do nothing that will make them feel awkward.

These days, everyone is very aware of the benefits of eating properly and the consequences of excess. This is one of the reasons why a healthy gift basket is a fantastic idea for a present. Going ‘healthy’ does not mean that the gift basket cannot be fun, personal and beautiful. If your loved one likes nuts, then buy nuts, but unsalted ones in their shells. You see? It only takes a little lateral thinking.

Children may seem hard to please on the topic of healthy gift baskets, because children love sweets and sugar, but there are many healthy snacks, which have a little less sugar. For instance, jam-filled biscuits contain sugar, but they also contain fruit. The same goes for oatmeal raisin cookies.

Toss in a few energy bars from the health food shop made from grains, fruit, honey, raisins and nuts and you may not have cut down on the calories, but you have increased the goodness of the foodstuff. An unusual fruit from the Indian Supermarket, like a passion fruit, a star fruit or a papaya might go down well too and impart extra vitamins.

If you are facing giving a healthy gift basket to a teenager, you may do well to remember that teens worry about their appearance. The get bad skin and spots. So you could prepare a healthy gift basket which included fresh fruit, pimple cream and skin cleanser with rose-scented bath bags for girls, and shaving kits for boys (or vice versa).

If you are giving a healthy gift basket to an elderly person, then bear in mind that many older people often put up with dietary problems and aches and pains, so the older you get, the more you appreciate healthy treats. Gourmet chocolate, fine quality drinking chocolate, bath salts and peppermints would definitely be appreciated. Single leaf tea is also an idea, say, Lapsong Suchong.

If you are thinking about giving a healthy gift basket to your parents, why not? Mum may well appreciate a variety of anti-wrinkle skin creams, cocoa butter or glycerin soap and bath salts. Many shops stock oils beneficial to mature skin. Gourmet chocolate will also be appreciated as will rarer nuts and fruits. Rose water is a good addition too.

And Dad? Well, you know him best. Is he sporty and health orientated or is he into work and relaxation? Does he take pleasure in fishing or golf? Does he like bar-b-queing? Does he enjoy expensive, single malt whisky – the non-guzzling variety? Does he like the occasional beer? If so, you could get him a few foreign beers that he has never tried before. Chocolate liqueurs are usually a firm favourite as well. Stem ginger is a popular luxury with those men who are aware of its existence.

Perhaps a few magazines on his favourite subject (no, not Penthouse) or a couple of tickets to a game. A joint basket for Mum and Dad is probably easier and then you can send them to the theatre or/and a restaurant too. A healthy one, naturally.
