So what is bicep tendonitis? Bicep tendonitis is when you over train your biceps and you cause undue stress on the bicep tendons. You see the bicep tendon is attached to your shoulders at one point and to your forearms in another point. when you over train your biceps this tendon wear out and when that happens you begin to feel pain at these tendons and this what is called bicep tendonitis
Repetitive movements like performing to many curls or throwing a baseball will inevitable lead to tendonitis.
The symptoms include
- pain when bending arm
- Localized softness or tenderness
- From time to time hearing a pop sound in your shoulder as well as feeling a sudden sharp pain in your shoulder area.
So the next question that arises is that you are wondering how to prevent bicep tendonitis.
If you feel bicep tendonitis is creeping up on you its time to take action. It’s a very annoying injury to acquire and its only cure is rest. But the problem is that some serious athletes can’t completely rest or take time off. In that case the best thing to do is ice it regularly. Icing an injury will help with preventing bicep tendonitis and will help speed up recovery. Another thing to do is regularly stopping and stretching the targeted muscle that also could be very useful. And the last thing is don’t push it. By this I mean that serious athletes always want to push themselves and that’s fine but not when you might acquire bicep tendonitis. In that case take any rest opportunity you can find. Rest in reality is the only cure
So let’s say you have come down with acute bicep tendonitis how do you heal yourself?
-Rest. Like I mention above. Rest is the only true cure for tendonitis. At this point you need to stop all and any strenuous activity on your bicep muscle
- Ice. Put a cold pack or ice on the spot where you feel pain. 20 minutes 4 times daily to reduce swelling
-Stretching. After acute pain has died down you should perform light, gentle stretches to the bicep with tendonitis.
- Medication. Take ibuprofen (Advil. Etc) to help with any pain and to help with inflammation
Try to avoid bicep tendonitis from the beginning. Do this by avoiding over training. Its one thing to train hard its another to over do it. So be careful with your training and avoid bicep tendonitis
